Burg Calenberg overlooks the hamlet of Calenberg, part of the town of Warburg in North Rhine-Westphalia. Built around 1250, it passed through several owners before being entirely rebuilt between 1880 and 1884 for a wealthy Barmen merchant who had made his fortune in Chile, under the direction of Cologne architect Heinrich Wiethase, who gave it a romantic medieval appearance. A striking feature is its massive stair tower with a circular walkway, giving wide views over the surrounding countryside.
