Burg Baumburg refers to the location of a former early medieval fortification, no longer standing, on a ridge overlooking the confluence of the Traun near Altenmarkt an der Alz. Held by the lords of Sigharding during the Ottonian and Salian periods, the site was converted into a monastery around 1020, giving rise to the Augustinian canons' priory of Baumburg. Nothing of the original fortified structure remains above ground; the location is now known chiefly for its Catholic parish church of St. Margaretha.
