To make a day of it
Burg Alt-Hayingen stands in Hayingen (Landkreis Reutlingen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Alt-Hayingen, also known as Ringwall Alt-Hayingen, refers to the remains of a rampart system located at 661 metres above sea level, overlooking the Lauter valley near the Maisenburg ruin. It is not a castle in the medieval sense but a fortified earthwork made up of an outer bailey and an inner rampart ring, with a double ditch and wall system to the west and a stepped hillside fortification to the east. Finds dated to the late Hallstatt period, between the sixth and fifth century BC, point to early Celtic settlement on the site. Since 2020, archaeological excavations have been carried out here as part of a research project on the surroundings of the nearby Heuneburg, an early Celtic centre of power.
