Schloss Hofendorf no longer stands: of this fortified residence southwest of the village of Hofendorf, only an archaeological site survives beneath a meadow, at the confluence of a branch of the Kleine Laber. First recorded in the early twelfth century through the lords who bore its name, the complex consisted of a square island about 25 metres across, surrounded by a water-filled moat some seven metres wide, still traceable on Bavaria's early cadastral maps. Today the ground has been completely levelled and shows no visible remains.
