To make a day of it

Château du Méjanel stands in Sévérac d'Aveyron (Aveyron), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The Château du Méjanel stands in the hamlet bearing its name, in the commune of Sévérac d'Aveyron, in the valley of the Aveyron river. Built during the 15th and 16th centuries, it belongs to the group of fortified manor houses known locally as repaires rouergats, rural residences designed for both defence and daily life. Its two towers, its turret and the parapet above the entrance door still show this defensive purpose, while its mullioned windows point to its role as a dwelling. The limestone and dolomite used in its construction were quarried from the very ground on which it stands, which ties the building closely to the surrounding causse landscape.
