In Le Boupère, in the Vendée region, the Fief-Milon castle stands with its main building flanked by two round towers dating back to the 14th century, when the fortress watched over Pouzauges against the English. Its elevated position once gave sweeping views over the Gâtine hills and the Vendée's upper countryside. In the early 19th century the towers were given a fortified look, topped with false machicolations and brick battlements in the neo-medieval taste of the period. The nearby outbuildings retain a notable roof frame dated to the late 16th or early 17th century.
