To make a day of it

Château du Colombier stands in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine), in the Bretagne region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Paramé, on the edge of Saint-Malo, this 18th-century malouinière manor still bears the name of its former octagonal dovecote. Built between 1711 and 1717 by the Saint-Malo shipowner Pierre Gris on former farmland, it retains a carved wooden central staircase and panelled salons from that period. The estate, now converted into a hotel and restaurant, is mainly seen today through its grounds, with a pond and once-Italian statues.

What to know

  • The château now operates as a private hotel and restaurant, which limits visits to the building itself.
  • The several-hectare park around the house and its pond can be explored on foot within the grounds.
  • No visiting hours or admission fees are published, access being linked to a stay or meal on site.
  • The estate is located in Paramé, a short drive from the historic centre of Saint-Malo.
