To make a day of it

Château du Chalonge stands in Héric (Loire-Atlantique), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Château du Chalonge stands in Héric, in the Loire-Atlantique department, about thirty kilometres from Nantes. The estate occupies a site inhabited since Roman times, later home to a feudal castle and then a manor house, before the present château was built in the nineteenth century. Restored between 2008 and 2012, it remains in the hands of the same family and is now mainly used for receptions, seminars and stays rather than as a heritage site open for touring.

What to know

  • The estate operates mainly as an event and stay venue rather than a monument open for casual visits.
  • Access is generally linked to a wedding, a seminar or an overnight stay on site.
  • The 22 hectare park includes a pond, centuries-old trees and a permaculture vegetable garden.
  • A heated pool is available in the summer season, from May to October, for guests staying on the property.
  • The venue can host large groups, with over 350 square metres of function rooms and 82 beds.
