To make a day of it

Château des Ponts-de-Cé stands in Les Ponts-de-Cé (Maine-et-Loire), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing at a crossing point on the Loire already used in Roman times, the château des Ponts-de-Cé has kept only its keep from its successive fortifications. The first stronghold dates from the 9th century, built to hold back Norman raids, and the site was destroyed, rebuilt and extended over time, notably by King René who made it one of his favourite residences in the 15th century. The keep now houses a collection of traditional headdresses and costumes from Anjou and beyond.
