To make a day of it

Château de Ternant stands in Ternant (Côte-d'Or), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Standing alone in woodland west of the village of Ternant, in the Côte-d'Or, this château was rebuilt from 1675 onwards by Louis de Pélissier on the site of a former hunting lodge belonging to the lords of Vergy. Two square towers topped with imperial roofs flank the main buildings, linked by a wooden gallery and an period staircase. Ownership passed through several hands, from the canons of Nuits-Saint-Georges to the Chavansot Berbis and then Dubard families, before the property was sold off as national property during the Revolution.
