To make a day of it

Château de Terchant stands in Loiron-Ruillé (Mayenne), in the Pays de la Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château de Terchant stands in the commune of Loiron-Ruillé, in the Mayenne department, some distance from the village of Ruillé-le-Gravelais. Founded in the late sixteenth century by Jean du Matz, known as Montmartin, the estate was raised to a viscounty by Henri IV and became one of the centres of Protestant worship in the Laval region until the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. One wing has since been demolished and the building was restored at the end of the nineteenth century, leaving grounds, woodland and ponds as the main features visible today. The château is tied to the history of the du Matz, Goyon and Couasnon families, who held it in succession for several centuries.
