What the French Ministry of Culture records

Lieu de la bataille de Taillebourg en 1242 (Saint-Louis et Henri III d'Angleterre). Dernier château fort de la fin du 15e siècle détruit par les guerres de religion et pendant la Fronde (ne subsiste qu'une tour médiévale). Nouvelle composition d'esprit classique : château avec sa terrasse construit entre 1717 et 1739 ; communs du 17e siècle, remaniés au 18e siècle. Domaine vendu et divisé à la Révolution. Le château disparaît dans un incendie en 1822.
