What the French Ministry of Culture records

Edifié entre 892 et 912, le château subit, à la fin du 14ème siècle, des dépradations. Au cours de la première moitié du 16ème siècle, la demeure est rebâtie selon un plan en U sur le style de la Renaissance italienne avec terrasses et jardins. De cette reconstruction, il apparaît que peu, voire aucun élément médiéval n'a été préservé. En 1796, le château est incendié et se présente, dès lors, à l'état de ruines.
