The château de Saint-Michel-le-Cloucq stands at the centre of its village in the Vendée, a few kilometres from Fontenay-le-Comte. First recorded as a seigneurial residence in the 12th century and held for generations by the Chasteigner family, the building was reshaped over time into a Renaissance-style manor typical of the local bocage countryside. Its most notable features are the gateway topped with a carved pediment bearing the Chasteigner arms, and the main façade overlooking the park with its horseshoe-shaped outdoor staircase.
