Standing at the heart of the village of Coulonges-sur-l'Autize, this Renaissance château built in the 16th century by the d'Estissac family still shows an east wing and the start of a south wing, despite the demolitions of the 18th century. Owned by the town since the 1930s, the building once housed the local school before being given back a heritage role. Its carved façades are representative of Renaissance architecture in Poitou, while part of the sculpted decoration removed in the 19th century by Octave de Rochebrune can now be seen at the château de Terre-Neuve, in Fontenay-le-Comte.
