Au milieu du 12e siècle, Raymond Guillaume de Sabazan abandonne tous ses biens au chapitre d'Auch. En 1339, Arnaud de Sabazan participe aux guerres de Cent ans. Au 16e siècle, le château fort subit des aménagements pour être transformé en gentilhommière. L'édifice a conservé son allure féodale avec, sur la façade nord, les restes d'un ancien pont-levis, ainsi que les quatre tours d'angle et leurs arquebusières. Par la suite, les façades perdirent cet aspect austère pour être percées de fenêtres éclairant largement les pièces. Au 19e siècle, le sous-sol fut aménagé en cave, un autre rez-de-chaussée fut créé et les fenêtres à meneaux supprimées au premier étage. A l'est, les communs sont isolés du château proprement dit. Cette construction est caractéristique des petits châteaux du Gers.
