In the Esch valley, the château de Pierrefort preserves the remains of a medieval fortress built at the very beginning of the 14th century. It originates with Pierre de Bar, younger son of Count Thiébaut II, who had it constructed on the lands of Martincourt in 1306. An older structure, already in ruins by that time, had stood on the same site before it. Visitors can notably see the crenellations that once equipped its defences.
