The Château de Mussel stands in Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, part of the commune of Valserhône, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its round keep, the oldest section of the building, dates back to the 13th century and is believed to date from the time of Peter II of Savoy, while a secondary wing was added in the 15th century. The structure, which exceeds 200 square metres of living space per floor, suggests it was once surrounded by a settlement, remnants of which are said to have been reused in nearby houses.
