What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château fut construit dans la première moitié du 18e siècle pour une riche famille de négociants bayonnais, les Roll-Montpellier, qui accéda à l'échevinat de la ville en 1725. Il fut complété par un vaste ensemble de communs au 19e siècle. Le château est représentatif des maisons de plaisance élevées dans les pays du Bas-Adour pour la bourgeoisie locale à l'époque classique. D'une architecture simple, l'édifice se compose d'un corps de logis rectangulaire flanqué de deux pavillons et s'ouvre sur la rivière par une terrasse et une cale pavées. A l'intérieur, le vestibule conserve une rampe d'escalier en fer forgé du début du 18e.
