In Montigny-en-Ostrevent, the Château de Montmorency has left behind its role as a lordly residence and now functions as a working farm, home to a restaurant and an equestrian centre. What remains of the medieval stronghold centres on the gatehouse flanked by two towers, a survivor of a fortress first raised on a motte in the 12th century. Passed from the Montigny family to the Montmorencys, the site was later converted into a country house before being sold off as national property and turned into a farm after the Revolution.
