To make a day of it

Château de Miremont stands in Mauzens-et-Miremont (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 14th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Manaurie and Brungidou valleys, the ruins of Miremont castle stand one kilometre from the village of Mauzens-et-Miremont. The Romanesque keep, dating from the 12th century with flat buttresses later altered during the Renaissance, recalls a stronghold fought over by French and English forces during the Hundred Years' War. Now in ruins, the site still reveals a complex fortified layout, including a double enclosure, square towers, terraces and traces of a former drawbridge entrance.
