To make a day of it

Château de Madic stands in Madic (Cantal), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On a mound overlooking the village of Madic and the Dordogne valley stand the ruins of a 15th century fortress, once known as a particularly luxurious residence. Built between 1469 and 1480 on the orders of Gilbert de Chabannes, governor and seneschal of Limousin, it replaced an earlier medieval castle of which only the Saint-Yves tower remained standing, until it too collapsed a few decades before the French Revolution. Visitors can still make out the thick walls and round corner towers of a stronghold built to carry cannon.
