To make a day of it

Château de Longefont stands in Oulches (Indre), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is not open to visitors.

Set on a bend of the Creuse river at Oulches, the château de Longefont stands on the site of a former women's priory of the Fontevraud order, founded in the 12th century. The priory manor house, reworked in the 19th century with its turrets, sits alongside the priory's Romanesque church, long buried under its own rubble before being restored by the current owners. Visitors today find Romanesque capitals, frescoes and contemporary stained glass, within grounds that still bear traces of an old barn, a vanished cloister and a spring.
