To make a day of it

Château de Lacoste stands in Lacoste (Vaucluse), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing at the top of the hilltop village of Lacoste, in the Luberon, this ruined castle overlooks the Calavon valley with views reaching as far as Mont Ventoux. Its origins date back to the 11th century, though it owes much of its fame to its last Ancien Régime owner, the Marquis de Sade, who stayed here several times before the building was ransacked during the Revolution. Rebuilt from 1952 onward and later bought in 2001 by fashion designer Pierre Cardin, the site now hosts summer cultural events in the nearby quarries.
