A rare example in Haute-Loire, the château de la Grangeasse at Aurec-sur-Loire is an 18th century residence that still stands alongside its farm outbuildings and wooded parkland. Several rooms retain original decorative features, including woodwork, stucco and painted door panels, even though the following century brought further changes to the house. Among its past residents were an archaeologist bearing the name of Tour d'Aurec and, afterwards, general Waldeck Boudinhon.
