The Château de la Forêterie stands in Allonnes, in the Sarthe department, just a few kilometres from the centre of Le Mans. Built in the 1890s for a Parisian banker who wished to settle in his family's home region, this Renaissance style building has a turbulent history, having endured German occupation and a fire set by an SS unit in 1944. Left abandoned for decades, it has been undergoing gradual restoration since the early 2000s, led by descendants of its original owner.
