What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château entouré de douves, qui servit de dépôt d'objets d'art pendant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Au Moyen-Age, c'était une importante forteresse dont subsiste la tour ruinée. L'édifice actuel fut bâti en 1570 par l'architecte Ricand. Le château se compose d'un corps de logis du 16e siècle accolé à un donjon en ruine du 13e siècle et accosté de plusieurs tours et tourelles. L'une d'elles, de forme octogonale, présente une porte du milieu du 16e siècle, décorée de sculptures Renaissance. Au-dessus du linteau, entre deux courts pilastres, un haut relief porte deux écussons timbrés d'un casque à cimier et soutenu par deux sauvages. Le donjon est carré et présente, à ses deux angles ouest, une tourelle ronde en encorbellement. L'intérieur du château conserve des cheminées monumentales, notamment deux cheminées à colonnes doriques sommées d'un trumeau que décorent de riches sculptures et des plaque d'attente en marbre noir.
