The château de Créminil stands in Estrée-Blanche, in the Pas-de-Calais region, surrounded by a double water-filled moat crossed by a drawbridge whose original mechanism still operates today. Built in the 15th century on a tight circular plan, it carries a tower, turret or buttress at each corner, remnants of an architecture designed to withstand marauding troops. In the 18th century the building lost its defensive character in favour of a pleasure residence, gaining a terrace overlooking the moat and new window openings in its façades. The estate also includes a wooded park and a lime-tree avenue, protected along with the building itself.
