To make a day of it

Château de Charly stands in Charly (Rhône), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument. No visits are on record for this building.

In Charly, within the Lyon metropolitan area, stands a former fortified castle begun in the early 14th century, altered in the 18th and partly dismantled in the 19th. Two square keeps remain, one crenellated, the other fitted with machicolations and corner turrets, joined by a residential wing, while the surrounding wall still shows round towers framing the entrance gate beneath a projecting bretèche. Local tradition holds that Pope Innocent IV stayed there in the mid-13th century.
