To make a day of it

Château de Challes stands in Saint-Didier-sur-Chalaronne (Ain), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Château de Challes stands in Saint-Didier-sur-Chalaronne, facing Thoissey, on a site thought to have once held a Roman oppidum. Its medieval towers were dismantled during the Revolution, leaving little trace of the original structure, though the north-east wing still dates back to the last lords of Challes, who remained there until the 16th century. In the 19th century, Henri de Vallin restored the estate, adding a dwelling house and outbuildings within a park that once included an orangery and a garden.
