A seventeenth-century residence at Argilliers, Château de Castille owes its present appearance to work undertaken in the late eighteenth century by Gabriel-Joseph Froment, baron de Castille, who remodelled it following Antique principles. The estate encompasses outbuildings, chapels and ornamental structures scattered through its park. Between 1950 and 1977, the château housed collector Douglas Cooper's contemporary art collection, augmented by wheel-engraved designs created by Picasso in 1962.
