To make a day of it

Château de Cassis stands in Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched above the bay of Cassis, this château combines medieval remains with recent renovations that turned the old fortress into a private guesthouse. Its origins go back to Antiquity, with a Roman watchtower, followed by a fortified enclosure built by the des Baux family in the 13th century. The building is not open for standard sightseeing visits: guests now stay in suites set up in the former halls and towers. The ramparts and the outline of the château remain visible from the village and from the heights of Cap Canaille.

What to know

  • The château now operates as a private accommodation and does not offer visits of the monument itself.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the premises.
  • Free parking is available within the château grounds.
  • The medieval ramparts and towers can be seen from the village of Cassis and the paths of Cap Canaille without needing direct access.
