What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ce château fut construit au début du 14e siècle, vers 1310. Se trouvant sur la frontière de l'Escaut, il eut à subir et à repousser de nombreux sièges. La tour Jeanne d'Arc est le seul vestige encore visible en surface du château démoli sous Louis XIV, dans lequel Jeanne d'Arc fut prisonnière quatre mois en 1430. Une partie des souterrains est bien conservée.
