To make a day of it

Château d'Urville stands in Courcelles-Chaussy (Moselle), in the Grand Est region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château d'Urville stands at Pont-à-Chaussy, on the left bank of the Nied française, within a park listed as a protected site since 1926. Its interest lies less in its architecture, altered over the centuries, than in the succession of figures connected to it: medieval lords of Lorraine, a general of the First French Empire, Marshal Bazaine hosting Napoleon III, and later Emperor Wilhelm II, who made it his Lorraine residence from 1890 to 1918. Of the original medieval castle only a fortified dovecote on arcades and an armorial fireplace plate remain, now found within the grounds of what is today an agricultural school. The estate, together with the Ménils farm, now belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture.
