To make a day of it

Château d'En-Haut de Joinville stands in Joinville (Haute-Marne), in the Grand Est region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

On the hill overlooking Joinville to the west, only fragments of fortification walls remain from the medieval stronghold, at a site now known as la Haute Motte or le Bastion. The castle was founded in the early 11th century by Étienne de Vaux, then enlarged by his successors, lords of Joinville and vassals of the county of Champagne. Sold in 1791 on condition that it be torn down, it vanished shortly after the French Revolution, leaving only these ruins above the Marne river.
