What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château d'eau construit de 1912 à 1913 pour le compte de la Société luçonnaise d'eau et d'électricité par René Guinaudeau, ingénieur et directeur de cette société, et J. Bardin, architecte de Luçon. Destiné à desservir en eau potable la nouvelle caserne de cavalerie, installée en 1913, l'eau était pompée à partir d'un forage effectué dans l'enceinte de la caserne. La station de pompage attenante au château d'eau abritait des groupes élévatoires, fonctionnant avec des moteurs à gaz pauvre. Le château d'eau, d'une capacité de 500 mètres cubes, est décoré de céramiques moulées dans un style Art Nouveau tardif. L'étude de sa structure en béton armé (précoce pour cette région) est réalisée par l'ingénieur nantais Guillemet, dépositaire des brevets du système Hennebique.
