A few kilometres from Chantonnay, in the Vendée region, the château de l'Auneau is a late 19th century house, built in 1899 for professor Édouard Grimaux by the architect Joseph Libaudière. The building is arranged around a central staircase, following a layout inspired by Roman villas, and each of its four façades treats symmetry differently. The surrounding park, planted with Lebanon cedars, umbrella pines and sweetgums, holds the Jardin remarquable label and contains a 120 metre long wall of roses.
