To make a day of it

Château d'Audour stands in Dompierre-les-Ormes (Saône-et-Loire), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second quarter of the 18th century). No visits are on record for this building.

Audour castle stands in the commune of Dompierre-les-Ormes, in Saône-et-Loire, a rectangular building flanked by two wings and a square tower overlooking a former ornamental pond. Its present appearance dates from a rebuilding carried out in 1775 under the architect Jean-Pierre Caristie, on a site occupied since the 13th century. Alphonse de Lamartine, who knew the estate well, left a literary description comparing its park to a Scottish landscape. The castle is now privately owned and is not open to visitors.
