To make a day of it

Château d'Allègre stands in Allègre-les-Fumades (Gard), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched at 275 metres above the Cèze valley, the ruins of Allègre castle bear witness to a medieval co-lordship that emerged in the 12th century and remained inhabited until the early 20th century. The site includes the remains of a Romanesque chapel, several towers, a large palatial complex of about fifteen rooms, and an abandoned village. The approach on foot, along old tracks, leads to a wide view stretching toward the Cévennes and Mont Bouquet.
