To make a day of it

Maison forte de Choisel stands in Saint-Paul-sur-Yenne (Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

Perched on a knoll above Saint-Paul-sur-Yenne, the ruins of the Choisel fortified house recall a Savoyard lordship held by the Seyssel family from the 13th century until the Revolution. The main building, flanked by towers and marked by mullioned windows added in the 15th century, lost its defensive profile in 1794 when the turrets were levelled to roof height to avoid demolition. In the courtyard, a stone base that once supported the local justice cross can still be seen, along with a coat of arms added by a later owner.
