Schloss Wallenburg sits on a ridge above the Schlierach valley, just north of Miesbach in Upper Bavaria. First recorded in 1270, it served as the main seat of the lordship and later the county of Hohenwaldeck, ruled by the Maxlrain family until the territory passed to Bavaria in 1734. Only the south wing has survived, including its knights' hall decorated with stuccowork by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, while the keep and chapel were torn down in the early 19th century. Centuries-old avenues of oak, lime, maple and ash trees still lead visitors toward the estate.
