To make a day of it

Schloss Rastede stands in Rastede (Landkreis Ammerland), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Rastede, in Rastede within the Landkreis Ammerland in Lower Saxony, served for generations as the residence of the counts and later grand dukes of Oldenburg, and remains in the family's hands today. The present building, an example of the local Oldenburg classicism, grew out of a former Benedictine monastery and a later baroque hunting lodge before being remodelled under Peter Friedrich Ludwig around 1800. The palace interior is closed to visitors, but the surrounding English-style landscape park is open to the public, as is the nearby Erbprinzenpalais, now used as a cultural venue.
