To make a day of it

Schloss Brand stands in Marktredwitz (Landkreis Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Brand stands at the northern edge of the old village core of Brand, now part of Marktredwitz, on either side of the Kössein stream. First documented in 1221, it was for centuries the seat of the noble von Brand family, whose member the composer Jobst von Brandt lived there and wrote his late works on the premises. The present buildings, rebuilt after a fire in 1690, combine a medieval core, visible in the thickness of the older walls, with additions from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, including a portal marking the transition from late Baroque to Classicism. Two separate wings are joined by a tower that now serves as a staircase.
