To make a day of it

Schloss Blaibach stands in Blaibach (Landkreis Cham), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Blaibach stands in the middle of the Upper Palatinate village that bears its name, in Bavaria. Largely rebuilt in the early seventeenth century for Wolf Albrecht Notthafft von Wernberg, it still shows the profile recorded in a 1721 engraving by Michael Wening: a two storey main house with a stepped gable, flanked by farm buildings arranged in a rhomboid layout. Since the twentieth century the complex has operated as a hotel and inn, which largely shapes how the grounds can be approached today.

What to know

  • The Schloss today houses a hotel and inn, so visits are mainly limited to the exterior.
  • The seventeenth century architecture, with its stepped gable and round arched carriage entrance, can be viewed from the village square.
  • No visiting hours or admission fees are published, as the building is mainly seen from outside.
  • The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in Bavaria, which does not in itself grant public access.
  • The original farm buildings, destroyed by fire in 1957, were replaced by a modern structure.
