To make a day of it

Ruine Dellingen stands in Bräunlingen (Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 10th century. No visits are on record for this building.

The Ruine Dellingen sits on a wooded hilltop at 775 metres above sea level, near the hamlet of Waldhausen, part of Bräunlingen. What remains of this medieval hill castle is mainly the ruined residential tower, its walls some 1.8 metres thick still standing four to five metres high and forming a roughly ten by ten metre square. The surrounding moat and outer rampart are also still recognisable in a near original state. An unusual feature is the tower's ground level entrance set in the north wall.

What to know

  • Only the ruined tower and traces of the moat and rampart remain, with no further facilities reported.
  • No opening hours, fees or accessibility arrangements are known, as with most freely accessible forest ruins.
  • Sturdy footwear is advisable given the wooded, uneven terrain.
