The Motte Streithausen marks the site of a former high medieval mound castle on the edge of the Kleine Nister stream, at the northern edge of the village of Streithausen. It was the earlier seat of the lords of Nister, documented between 1117 and 1187, before they moved to the nearby Burg Nister. Archaeological excavations in 1905 and 1977 uncovered traces of timber and clay buildings along with pottery shards, iron fragments and a bronze button.
