The Burg Henrichenburg was a medieval stronghold whose site now lies along the banks of the Rhine-Herne Canal in Castrop-Rauxel. No original structure remains standing: the fortress, torn down in the late eighteenth century and long forgotten, was only rediscovered during building works in the 1990s. After archaeological excavation, the grounds were turned into a landscaped park, with hedges tracing the former wall lines and a wooden bridge crossing the symbolic outline of the old moat.
What to know
- No visible building remains on site: it is now an open-air landscaped park.
- The former wall lines are marked by hedges and paving rather than standing ruins.
- A wooden footbridge crosses the site of the former moat, now a symbolic landscape feature.
- As an outdoor site, it has no set opening hours or entrance fee tied to a built monument.
