To make a day of it
Haus Demmin stands in Demmin (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
On an island where the Peene and Tollense rivers meet, near Demmin, stand the remains of a former stronghold of the dukes of Pomerania. Surveys carried out on site uncovered a round brick keep dated to around 1200, regarded as the oldest surviving secular building in Pomerania. What visitors find today is an open-air ruin of foundations and wall fragments, bearing traces of several building phases on a fortified mound settled as early as the early Middle Ages. It is best approached as an archaeological site rather than a standing castle.
