Erbhof Thedinghausen stands in Thedinghausen (Landkreis Verden), in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Erbhof Thedinghausen is a former manor house in Thedinghausen, Lower Saxony, built from 1619 onward for the Archbishop of Bremen, Johann Friedrich, as a residence for his companion Gertrud von Hermeling-Heimbruch. The brick building, representative of the Weser Renaissance style with early Baroque touches, is marked by three projecting bays and elaborately carved sandstone gables. Carved medallions still show the portraits of the couple, and a spiral staircase occupies the central bay. The estate is today surrounded by a large tree park open to visitors.
What to know
- The estate has belonged to the municipality of Thedinghausen since 1999, after several changes of ownership and two bankruptcies.
- The interior has been largely altered over the centuries, so the main interest for visitors lies in the exterior facade and architecture.
- The adjoining 11-hectare tree park is open to the public and contains a roughly 400-year-old yew tree, considered the largest publicly accessible one in Germany.
- A thorough restoration took place between 2011 and 2014, covering the roof structure, the Renaissance hall and the painted ceiling beams.
