To make a day of it

Burgwallinsel (Kastorfer See) stands in Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burgwallinsel lies within the Kastorfer See, on the municipal territory of Knorrendorf, east of Kastorf in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region. Excavations led by archaeologist Volker Schmidt in the late 1980s uncovered the remains of a fortified Slavic island settlement from the late Slavic period. Two wooden bridges once connected the island to the eastern and western shores of the lake, and the wealth of finds recovered suggests the site may have served as a fortified trading post rather than a simple stronghold. The former earthen rampart has largely disappeared due to past agricultural use of the land.
